There's no shortage of computer programs that will help photographers catalog and edit their pictures.

One of the most popular--and easiest to use--is Google's Picasa. It's a free download.

Here are a few reasons some of us like Picasa:

  • It's easy to send pictures via email using Picasa. There's no need to resize pictures because the program does this by default. If you want to send someone an extra large image, you can do that, too.
  • It's easy to crop pictures with Picasa. You can chose 4x6, 5x7, 8x10--all popular print sizes--or select Manual and crop your picture any way you wish.
  • Most pictures need sharpening, which is only a click away.
  • Want brighter colors? Try the slider in Saturation.
  • Picture a bit lopsided? Click on Straighten and use the slider.
  • Want your picture in black and white? Go to Effects and chose B&W.
  • Want to make a CD of several pictures? Easy with Picasa.
  • How about a Slideshow? It's only a click away.
  • Printing your photos in Picasa is as easy as clicking on Print at the bottom of the page and following directions. Press Review on the printing page and Picasa will tell you how many pixels you'll get.
  • How about some fun. Press Ctrl+Shift+Y. We guarantee you'll smile.
